Are you passionate about shaping cutting-edge IoT solutions and advancing industrial systems? We are looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join our team in Waterloo, Canada, and lead the enhancement and expansion of the BorealisWind Ice Protection System (IPS).

Our solution is operational, but we seek an innovative thinker who can optimize, scale, and refine our existing architecture. With a deep understanding of industrial IoT, experience with PLCs and SCADA systems, and proficiency in server development, you will drive innovation and efficiency for our IPS.

Responsibilities

As Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing, refining, and advancing our IoT solutions to optimize the performance and efficiency of our ice protection systems while ensuring seamless integration with the larger FabricAir infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Director of Technology, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and partners to deliver robust and innovative solutions.

Your Contributions Will Include

  • Remote Server Design: Create a deployable server design for customer sites with FA IT including BOM, installation and commissioning instructions, customer network integration, and functional decomposition
  • Microcontroller Migration: Collaborate with BorealisWind TECH to migrate from PLC to industrial microcontroller for IPS IO.
  • Data Integration: Ensure optimized and stable data transfer from site to cloud servers for seamless operation.
  • Architect and Enhance IoT Solutions: Lead the enhancement and further development of our current IoT solutions tailored for the BW IPS, taking them to the next level in terms of scalability, reliability, and innovation.
  • Integration with Industrial Systems: Develop and integrate IoT systems with existing PLC and SCADA systems to ensure seamless communication, data collection, and control.
  • Wind Turbine Experience: Apply knowledge of wind turbines or similar industrial projects to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Development and Programming: Write and review code in Python on Windows servers to develop custom IoT applications and ensure their efficient operation.
  • Data Management: Implement data acquisition, processing, and storage solutions to handle large datasets from connected devices.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure that all remote-server solutions meet industry standards for security, reliability, and compliance.

You will effectively coordinate with global teams across Canada, India, and Lithuania, ensuring seamless communication and alignment across time zones. Additionally, staying at the forefront of advancements in IoT and wind energy technologies will be essential, enabling you to continuously enhance our offerings and drive innovation within the company.

Experience And Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years in server and IoT development/maintenance.
  • Proven experience with PLC (e.g., OMRON) and SCADA systems.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and version control systems like Git.
  • Familiarity with industrial IoT protocols (e.g., MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus).
  • Knowledge of data analytics and machine learning is a plus.
  • Experience with wind turbines or similar large-scale industrial projects is highly desirable.
  • Certification in Azure IoT or related technologies.
  • Expertise in real-time data processing and edge computing.
  • Familiarity with NERC CIP cybersecurity standards.
