The Opportunity

Duties

Reporting directly to the Manager of Development Engineering, this role is responsible for assisting the Engineering Services group with data requests, site visits, project management, database management, and GIS mapping development and analysis. You will be responsible for ongoing development and maintenance of GIS spatial databases, integrating CAD and georeferenced data into the Town’s GIS system, preparing visual aids such as maps and charts, and assisting with the management of construction and development projects. As the Student, Engineering, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Ongoing development and maintenance of GIS spatial databases for stormwater asset management and easements
  • Integrating CAD and georeferenced data with the Town’s GIS system (ArcGIS)
  • Updating and managing mapping for Town assets, such as “as-builts” and GIS databases
  • Collaborating with IT/GIS groups to ensure GIS management direction is followed
  • Preparing maps, charts, and tables for engineering projects
  • Completing site visits and documenting the status of Development and Capital construction projects
  • Assisting with project management tasks, such as processing invoices and taking meeting minutes
  • Maintaining the Town’s filing system and assisting in the transition to an electronic system

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic student working towards a degree or diploma in Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field and who will be returning to school in Fall 2025. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. A demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity is also important. The successful candidate will be proactive, analytical, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Additionally, The Candidate Should Possess

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS (ArcGIS 10.3+), ArcGIS Online, and related GIS and engineering software
  • A valid driver’s licence with no more than 3 demerit points
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills

The successful candidate for Student, Engineering will be required to work a flexible schedule, including both in-office and on-site work, as well as after hours when required to meet deadlines or address urgent project needs.

This position offers an hourly rate of $20.62.

Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school may be requested.
