Job Description

As the principal project officer, you will support the General Manager (GM) in developing and executing projects, policies, and high-level organisational coordination to support the achievement of QAS’ objectives. You will play a key role in supporting the GM to manage and deliver on critical, high-pressure projects aligned with current priorities.

The Queensland Academy of Sport’s mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia’s best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle. The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Your Contribution And Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively deliver projects and/or policies that support the GM & the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the delivery of QAS’ 2032 Strategy. This specifically includes, managing projects with speed, velocity and effectiveness within a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Support the GM in the delivery of high-quality written communications, in particular, DG briefings and internal and external communications across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Provide organisational and coordinative support to GM in executing stakeholder meetings including agenda setting, written /resource materials and timely, follow-up actions.
  • Conduct research and analysis to interpret complex issues arising in projects or policy initiatives and communicate findings and options to the QAS GM, SLT and other stakeholders.
  • Support QAS GM and Change Management with relevant organisational, coordination and administrative tasks in supporting the QAS transition to a Statutory Authority.
  • Develop strong networks with key stakeholders, including other QAS business units, the DSROPG Department, National and State Sporting organisations to deliver QAS outcomes.
  • On behalf of the GM and SLT, work collaboratively with National and State Sporting Organisations and National Institute of Network (NIN) to administer and execute relevant projects to ensure the QAS remains at the forefront of National and International sporting success.
  • Understand government protocols, rules and regulations to operate with streamlined efficiency and within Government parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Australian High-Performance system (including State Institutes, AIS, international and professional elite sport networks) to share knowledge and leverage opportunities.
  • Provide a safe, and safe environment for QAS supported athletes and any other children and young people engaged with the QAS, free from physical, sexual and emotional abuse or neglect.
  • As a member of the QAS team, take shared accountability for setting a high performance culture to enable successful outcomes. This also includes adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards at all times.
  • Comply with the Code of Conduct for the Queensland Public Service, Public Service Values and departmental policies and positively contribute to a high-performing workplace culture that is respectful, inclusive and safe.
