EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Description Of Work

The Executive Director is a full-time professional position.

The Southern Iowa Council of Governments serves 67 communities and eight counties. The Executive Director directs the organization’s planning, technical assistance, grantsmanship, economic development and local leadership initiatives sponsored by the Agency. The Executive Director conducts comprehensive programming through Southern Iowa Council of Governments, Southern Iowa Development Group, Southern Iowa COG Housing Trust Fund and ATURA (RPA14) Transportation Planning Affiliation. The Executive Director provides direction, supervision and communication to all staff so that programs are consistently, effectively and efficiently implemented. He or she also exhibits interpersonal skills that foster the development and maintenance of good working relationships and provides consistent and comprehensive communication to the Boards of SICOG and it affiliates.

Experience in planning or public administration is preferred. Experience working with governmental projects is also an asset.

The successful candidate will have several years of public management experience, especially in regional development. Other important qualities are the ability to manage and direct a talented staff, establish effective partnerships with other community institutions and local, state and federal leaders. Knowledge and experience in: budgeting and general accounting principles, understanding and creating programs that follow state and federal grant administrative rules, being a positive, responsive representative of SICOG to stakeholders and the public.

The Executive Director is an exempt employee and reports to the agency’s Board of Directors.

A beginning salary of $90,000 and a very competitive benefits package is provided.
