Below is a brief overview of the role, not a full job description.

  • Responds to emergencies with a fire company or rescue unit, and answers medical emergencies as part of an engine company as a basic life support unit, rescue unit, Marine unit or on an advanced life support unit.
  • Removes, extracts, and rescues persons from danger, recognizes acute symptoms requiring immediate care, and assists in administering life-saving rescue procedures to injured or afflicted persons.
  • Performs salvage operations including throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, removing debris, and placing smoke ejectors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED.

Licenses or Certifications

  • A valid State driver’s license and obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
  • A valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic Certification.
  • A State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance – Firefighter II Certification.
  • Successfully completed an IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within one year prior to the close of the current posting.
  • Meets physical ability requirements designated by the Cape Coral Fire Department.
