Job Description
The ideal candidate will have a multi-disciplinary background and experience developing space systems. They will have a balance of breadth across all engineering disciplines, and depth in select areas such as: propulsion systems, mechanical or electrical design, satellite operations, thermofluids, data analysis. The candidate will develop interdisciplinary requirements and bridge the gap between hardware and software teams to ensure they are met. As customer coordination is key for this role, the ideal candidate will be highly skilled in customer management. This includes reviews and meetings, documentation, and interface coordination.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating and planning for in-space operations.
- Serving as main point of contact for customers wanting to expand their space mobility capabilities with Accion’s thrusters.
- Leading integration of Accion’s thrusters onto customer spacecraft.
- Serving as a Project Engineer on development and product application programs, coordinating technical development and leading integration of mechanical, electrical, software, and fluid systems.
- Developing system architectures, conducting trade studies to determine design decisions, and leading failure analyses.
- Defining system-level requirements, tracking them throughout a program, and ensuring that they are verified through testing
- Developing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Propulsion System User Guides.
- Analyzing spacecraft propulsion needs and modeling the performance of Accion’s products.
- Supporting technical business development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or similar.
- 5+ years of work experience.
- Knowledge of spacecraft/satellite needs and requirements.
- Strong hands-on skills in any area, including small hand tools, machining, soldering, test equipment operation. (Note: this position does not require lab work, but requires a strong understanding of it)
- Previous experience developing systems for space or for a similar harsh and/or regulated environment (i.e. underwater, airborne, medical devices).
- Strong technical project management skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills; ability to clearly convey technical concepts to a lay audience.
- Previous experience integrating complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience planning for, and executing, testing of prototypes.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or similar.
- 7+ years of work experience
- Experience designing and analyzing space systems.
- Experience with space system test sequences (acceptance, qualification, etc.).
- Experience with spacecraft/satellite mission planning and/or operations.
- Electric or chemical space propulsion experience.
- Experience modeling physical systems using Python, Matlab, or similar.
- Orbital, Electromagnetic, thermal, structural, FEA analysis experience using tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, Thermal Desktop, STK, etc.
- SolidWorks and Altium Designer proficiency.
