Job Description

Strathcona Midwifery Collective is looking for a full time midwife to join our practice for July 1st 2025.

Strathcona Midwifery Collective is a well established practice located at the convergence of the Downtown Eastside, Strathcona & Chinatown neighbourhoods of Vancouver. We care for a diverse clientele and offer inclusive care which affirms the dignity of the families we serve. Some of the specific communities we are privileged to care for are the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Indigenous families and newcomers to Canada, many of whom are undocumented and have precarious status in our health care system. We strive to be a safe, accessible, and welcoming clinic and we are always learning from our clients and from each other along the way. Our midwifery clinic has been a dynamic community space that welcomes classes, groups and drop-ins.

In 2020 we moved into a newly renovated clinic space in a vibrant Chinatown block with cafes, restaurants and a bookstore. There is a small community pharmacy on the ground floor that is keen to support our clients. We are well positioned close to major transit hubs and a bike route and are a few blocks from the future St Paul’s hospital site.

We have excellent full-time administrative support and we use Oscar Pro EMR for all our charting.

There are currently 3 full scope teams and 1 ‘postpartum only’ team working at the clinic and we support each other closely offering backup, labour sitting, home visits, or other support when needed. Collaboration and being willing to help out the larger collective is essential to our work. However, we also value work-life balance as critical to sustainability in this profession.

We are looking for a midwife to join an established team (the PLUM team) with the goal of working as a team of 5 midwives with a case load of 14 EDDs, with 2-4 postpartum only clients (16-18 total). We are currently 4 full time midwives and are looking to add a 5th member on a full time basis. We mostly do a combination of 12hr and 24hr call.

We are looking for a start date of July 1st 2025. Ideally, we are intending this to be a long term position however this can be further discussed as needed. We primarily service clients electing home birth, and BC Women’s Hospital as the delivery site but we also hold privileges at St. Pauls and do roughly 1-2 births a month there.
