Job Description
The Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Job Corps IT Academy (JCITA) plays a vital, supportive role in ensuring the success of instructors and students across all six Job Corps centers. Working remotely, the TA provides administrative, technical, and student engagement support, contributing to the seamless delivery of the IT Academy’s curriculum and learning objectives. As a centralized, full-time position, the TA collaborates with instructors to monitor and assess student progress, facilitate discussion boards, and ensure students have access to the resources they need to succeed.
The TA will be trained in the JCITA’s instructional approach, which emphasizes fostering learner agency, emotional intelligence, and mastery of IT concepts, the IT Academy curriculum, and the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring their readiness to support the academy’s mission of fostering learner agency, emotional intelligence, and mastery of IT concepts. An IT background and experience working in the IT field are valuable assets for this role, particularly in helping students develop workplace readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide grading support for online assignments, quizzes, and projects.
- Coordinate schedules and assist in organizing instructor and student activities.
- Track and monitor student certifications and progress to ensure timely completion of milestones.
- Collect and organize data on student performance for instructor and program reporting.
Student Engagement
- Monitor and respond to student questions and comments in online discussion boards, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Assess and evaluate students’ learning progress to determine readiness to advance in the curriculum (mastery-based approach).
- Provide guidance and support to students navigating the LMS and other learning tools.
- Encourage professional development and workplace readiness by offering insights based on IT industry experience.
Technical Support
- Assist instructors and students with technical troubleshooting related to the LMS, virtual labs, and other online tools.
- Ensure all technical resources and systems function smoothly to minimize disruptions to learning.
- Provide basic IT support to students as they develop technical competencies, helping them build confidence in troubleshooting common workplace IT challenges.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with IT concepts such as hardware, software, networking, and databases.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask across six centers in the Southeast region (Eastern and Central time zones).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with students and instructors.
- Experience working in an IT role or supporting technical teams.
- Prior experience in education, training, or a similar support role.
- Proficiency with online learning platforms, such as LMS tools, and virtual collaboration tools.
- Familiarity with the instructional approach of fostering learner agency and flipped-instruction models.
- This is a full-time, remote position supporting instructors and students at six Job Corps centers in the Southeast region.
- Requires availability to respond to student and instructor needs across Eastern and Central time zones.
- The TA will receive comprehensive training in the ITA curriculum, the JCITA’s instructional approach, and the academy’s LMS to ensure readiness to support the program.
- Occasional virtual meetings with instructors, students, and TMS leadership will be required to ensure collaboration and program alignment.
