Farmer Mac is looking to hire a driven, analytical, industry focused and personable individual for the position of Analyst – Portfolio Monitoring. The ideal candidates will have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in finance, accounting, banking, or related experience.

Position Summary

The Analyst – Portfolio Monitoring is responsible for the assessment, tracking, and archiving of required financial information for the Commercial and Rural Infrastructure loan portfolios. This position supports the organization’s business lines to assist with the post-approval and monitoring functions of complex, unique business transactions.

The People You Will Work With

The position reports directly to the Manager of Portfolio Monitoring. The role may liaise with members of Business Development, Rural Infrastructure, Credit, Finance, Operations, Servicing, Information Technology, Accounting, and Legal Departments. Additionally, the position may collaborate with external stakeholders such as external legal counsel, seller financial institutions, or other counterparties.

Where and When You Will Work

Farmer Mac has a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. Work may be performed in a hybrid or fully remote setting during standard business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Work outside of core hours may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time-sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events. Periodic travel is expected to meet with internal and external stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

  • Responsible for tracking financial reporting requirements and covenants in the Commercial and Rural Infrastructure loan portfolios.
  • Collaborate with Underwriters, Relationship Managers, or external counterparties to obtain required financial information.
  • Review loan documentation to ensure the accurate set up of financial ticklers and covenants using Farmer Mac’s internal tickler system.
  • Maintain the tickler database and report past due items on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate all reporting and covenant violations to Underwriters and Relationship managers timely.
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual portfolio reports, when required.
  • Support the post settlement activities for the Large Farm & Ranch portfolio, including but not limited to amendments, consents, and collateral releases.
  • Assist with spreading and analyzing financial statements, and test for covenant compliance following internal spreading guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating the documentation of portfolio monitoring processes and coordination protocols across Farmer Mac teams.
  • Perform other department duties to support the Transaction Management team.

Desired Skills And Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of financial reporting requirements and covenant compliance tracking.
  • Ability to review and comprehend credit write-ups and loan documentation.
  • Experience in spreading financial statements and written analysis.
  • Sound analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of collateral perfection requirements and UCC compliance.
  • Experience in syndication, participation, and/or project finance-related transactions is helpful.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Proficient using MS Office applications (MS Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Experience and Education

  • Understanding of Commercial or Agricultural loan documentation.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with a bank or financial institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a similar discipline

Our compensation philosophy is targeted pay positioning relative to peers, our industry, and external markets. Farmer Mac is committed to a compensation program that will enable the organization to attract, motivate, reward, and retain highly skilled and creative talent to maintain sustained long-term performance and achieve the organization’s strategic business objectives. The typical base pay range for this role is $50,000 to $80,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on experience and location.
