JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT TO THE BOOKKEEPER/SCHOOL NUTRITION
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 230 Days
Starting Pay: $21.65
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of School Nutrition PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Accounting Assistant (School Nutrition) examines a variety of accounting documents to verify the accuracy of computations. The assistant ensures that all transactions are appropriately supported, in accordance with policies and procedures, and classified and recorded according to acceptable accounting standards. Major Responsibilities- Assists with processing invoices, packing slips, purchase orders, and travel reimbursements.
- Assist in preparing accounts payable checks for all accounts.
- Serves as a backup for monthly closing operations.
- Assists in journal entries.
- Assist with monthly reports as needed.
- Assists with balancing monthly bank statements
- Assists in preparing salary accruals, benefit accruals, and calculations
- Assists and supports/trains managers with school nutrition bookkeeping record-keeping process
- Assists in payroll operations (compiles/completes).
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the School Nutrition Program Director.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required, associate’s or degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- At least 2 years of bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management experience: school nutrition experience
Skills Required
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and district staff.
- Knowledge of school nutrition bookkeeping is preferred.
- Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred experience: Smart Fusion, Time Clock Plus, nutrition software, GADOE ETrieve
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates and percentages
