In 2017, our team discovered the potential for converting warm water into electricity during a visit to Iceland. Seeing the massive potential for geothermal applications, we founded Baseload Capital to fund geothermal projects worldwide.

In 2018 we established Baseload Power to develop and operate these projects. Today, we have power companies operating in Japan, Taiwan, the U.S., and Iceland, working towards our vision of a planet in balance. We are a team of eight in Japan, and 50+ colleagues worldwide.

Join Baseload Power Japan as the Finance Director

As the Finance Director at Baseload Power Japan, you will be a strategic leader and a proactive doer. With your strategic vision and leadership, you’ll help build a cohesive unit to help us write a success story in our work to bring sustainable energy to more communities.

You will also take a vital role in reaching this mission through your support in the ongoing and future capital raising processes within Baseload Power Japan and finding project financing solutions.

You report to the Country Manager for Baseload Power Japan and work closely with the rest of the local team, as well as collaborate with the CFO and Finance team at Baseload Capital in Sweden, and with the Finance directors across our Power markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Baseload Power Japan’s both strategic and operational business and financial controlling, reporting and business planning, budgeting & forecasting
  • Be accountable for Baseload Power Japan payroll, bookkeeping, accounting, and monthly / quarterly/annual closing – supported by Baseload’s Local Accounting partner in Japan. (Short and mid-term, we do not have inhouse bookkeeping and accounting at Baseload)
  • Responsible for tax and financial reporting compliance.
  • Support the core business from a financial perspective in raising capital, project financing solutions, data and support in the due diligence processes.
  • Oversee finance department operations and perform financial management duties, including cash management, valuation, reporting, analysis, and compliance.
  • Establish solid processes for financial project follow-up.
  • Manage reporting systems, purchasing systems and secure an efficient P2P process.

This is you

  • Graduate degree in Finance or Accounting; relevant certifications.
  • Extensive experience from senior financial roles, ideally in renewable energy and/or international setting.
  • Proven track record managing complex financial structures with multiple subsidiaries and intercompany agreements.
  • Fluency in English and Japanese required (JLPT N1 or above is a requirement).
  • Demonstratable experience from both strategic and operative business controlling.
  • Strong working knowledge of Japanese generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The following is not a requirement but meritorious

  • Experience Important to have knowledge/a will to digitalize and improve existing processes.
  • Experience with joint ventures and/or transitioning from start-up to scale-up is highly preferred.
