Job Description

About Us

We’re on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can’t build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We’ve been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like Pixar, Mitsubishi, Figma, Plaid, Match Group, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we’re growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We’re passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches.

Notion is an in-person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).

About The Role

We’re seeking an experienced User Researcher to join our growing team. This role will be instrumental in shaping our product decisions through deep user insights and strategic research initiatives. In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead end-to-end research projects from planning and methodology selection to execution and presentation of findings, working at both a strategic and tactical level.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research including user interviews, usability testing, participatory design, diary studies, usability studies, and surveys — to deliver the right type of data and insights at the right time.
  • Deliver actionable insights that enable us to deeply understand our customers, identify business opportunities, and shape decision-making. Proactively share these insights, leveraging clear communication strategies and advanced storytelling, and adapting your approach for different audiences.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships, partnering with Design, Product, Engineering, and Data Science to integrate research and user feedback into different phases of product development process.

Skills You’ll Need To Bring

  • You have 4+ years of professional industry experience in UX research, ideally for digital products. Bachelors Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Behavioral Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, or similar.
  • You care about the business needs, implications, and practicality of your work. You can balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line and have a consistent record of using your research skills to drive product and business impact.
  • You understand the strengths and limitations of different research methods and when to apply them, and have hands-on experience independently designing and running UX research from beginning to end.
  • You’re a good listener who collaborates well with different stakeholders. You observe and internalize all inputs and feedback to help you reach an optimal decision and prioritize wisely.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or PhD Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Behavioral Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, or similar
  • Advanced survey expertise, including sampling, questionnaire design and data analysis skills.
  • Passion for working and learning in a fast-growing company
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python or other data analyses tools
  • Experience communicating research to executive stakeholders
  • You’re familiar with the work of computing heroes like Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, Bret Victor, etc. — and understand why we’re big fans.

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.
