Job Summary
Medical Assistants work under the direct authority of a physician in an outpatient setting. The supervising/delegating physician is responsible for medical assistants in performing tasks delegated by the physician. The medical assistant is also responsible for tasks performed according to specific procedures or as delegated by the physician. These tasks include collection of patient data including recording vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, respirations, pulse and electrocardiograms). Other clinical tasks include venipuncture/phlebotomy (per CLIA quality control regulations), administering intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections {including immunizations/vaccinations}. The Medical Assistant is a contributing member to the multidisciplinary health care team and must be able to communicate the needs of the patent/significant others to all disciplines involved in the patient’s care.
Minimum Education/License/Certification Requirements
- Must be a graduate from a medical assistants program.
- Hold a valid diploma to practice as a medical assistant.
- Certification preferred.
- Previous work experience is desired but training will be provided for a qualified candidate.
