  • $76,817 + 11.5% superannuation (VPS 3.1 position)
  • In person role based in the Melbourne CBD
  • Leave may be restricted during the legal year

The Honourable Associate Justice Catherine Gobbo seeks a highly motivated, legally qualified individual with relevant post-admission experience to be her next associate. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and mentorship from a leading commercial law expert by observing a variety of civil matters, including complex interlocutory applications and trials. Her Honour predominately presides over matters in the Commercial Court however has a small generalist case load and facilitates judicial mediations across various areas of law, ensuring broad exposure for the successful candidate.

It is anticipated the successful candidate will commence in March or April of 2025. These are busy judicial chambers so to succeed in this role, you must have initiative, be adept to working in a fast paced environment meeting competing deadlines, and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational, research, time management and drafting skills. Additionally, the role requires strong attention to detail, superior written and oral communication skills, personal qualities suitable for liaising with the profession and public, and a sound academic record.

Duties Include

  • Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining court records and preparing material for use by the judge in court;
  • clerking in court and drafting orders;
  • liaising with court staff, the public and the profession;
  • legal research;
  • proofreading and fact-checking;
  • assisting with the production of judgments;
  • assisting in judicial mediations.
