- Position Summary
- Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining patient private health information records, both electronic and physical charts. This includes processing requests for medical records copies following the guidelines of the facility, inserting lab, radiology, consults and other outside information into the charts appropriately as necessary, scanning of documents into the electronic chart, pulling physical charts and refilling physical charts as necessary, working on special projects and other tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience
- Two years medical office setting required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Computer skills required.
- Basic knowledge of HIPPA requirements.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Calm, professional attitude in stressful situations.
- High level of ethics in maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Operate all general office equipment.
- Ability to maintain courteous and customer oriented demeanor in a crisis situation and acts responsible to resolve or defuse the situation.
- Ability to assist patients with non-clinical request.
- Ability to carry out registration process without interruption due to nature of patient’s illness.
- Ability to adapt well to change.
- Flexible schedule to rotate shifts as needed.
- Ability to work closely with co-workers, other clinic staff and patients.
- Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to sit at desk or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb stairs/ladder to pull charts.
- Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 40lbs as well as pushing and/or pulling objects.
- Ability to walk short distances.
- OSHA Category II: Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
- Ability to operate office equipment.
