Role Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior accountant to perform and coordinate accounting duties within Quill (a Staples company). The Senior Accountant fosters a culture of continuous learning and innovation, explores new ideas and solutions to improve the business. This individual should also position the finance team as thought leaders, “peaking around the corner” to anticipate and navigate future challenges. The Senior Account is a business support role that provides accurate financial information on our $1.0B ecommerce business. Our team works in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage Quill’s financial monthly close process; ensure conformity with GAAP as well as internal guidelines and procedures.
  • Align with internal (SPLS) Sr. Managers and Directors in Accounting on close process.
  • Work with Finance and Merchandising business partners to invoice vendors for promotions and follow up with vendors where required.
  • Reconcile the sales sub ledger to Oracle Financials and explain discrepancies.
  • Own month-end and year-end close process including Sarbanes Oxley Controls.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Establish strong working relationships with internal, key functional area leaders, helping them navigate the financial details of their business.
  • Work effectively with finance colleagues to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate deliverables.
  • Support the monthly/weekly/budget sales/demand models working closely with FP&A team.
  • Develop new forecasting models where necessary.

  • Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Strong MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

What’s Needed- Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting and FP&A experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to be present at the Quill office at a minimum of 3 days per week.

What’s Needed- Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certification (e.g. CPA).
  • Experience with Oracle Financials.
