Position: School Counsleor
School Counselor (K-12)
Role
To provide Christ-centered, biblically-based counseling and support for students and families, while fostering social-emotional growth in alignment with the school’s mission and values. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Offer counseling and emotional support to students, utilizing a biblical framework to address their needs.
- Serve as the Child Safeguarding Team Lead, including preparing agendas and leading quarterly Child Safeguarding Team Meetings.
- Coordinate and lead Child Safeguarding responses, including initial assessments, safety plans, and follow-ups.
- Collaborate with principals to develop and implement school-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives.
- Facilitate parent communication by contributing to the OCSI Connections quarterly newsletter with relevant updates and resources.
Qualifications
- Meet or exceed board-mandated qualifications (B2.2.1).
- Possess appropriate training and/or experience in counseling; an advanced degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrate a commitment to biblical principles in counseling and education.
- Have the ability to work effectively with students from kindergarten through grade 12.
- Be willing to complete additional duties as assigned.

Number of Contract Days
180 Instruction Days, Less than 200 Teacher Work Days
Starting Salary Range
Modest salary and full benefits to include health insurance, pension, and a commuting allowance.
Accommodation
Apartments may be available at a subsidized rate for employees for their first year. They boast an amazing ocean view and we have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments available.
Flights/Transport
Flights for the employee and up to one dependent are covered by the school. A relocation allowance may be available for applicants hired from outside Okinawa.
Dependent Opportunities
