Job Description

The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of our growing wholesale and retail business. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong business acumen who can provide financial leadership and guidance to support the company’s growth objectives. The ideal candidate will be technically knowledgeable and have a solid understanding of distribution, financial management, and regulatory compliance, coupled with a high degree of personal accountability and the interpersonal skills to provide clarity, hold people accountable and inspire.

Location – Charleston, South Carolina – On Site (Not A Remote Opportunity)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis:
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Accounting and Reporting:
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Cash Flow Management:
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity to support day-to-day operations and capital investments.
  • Financial Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including sales tax, income tax, and other applicable taxes.
  • Coordinate audits and examinations by external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements that may impact on the business.
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Partner with CFO and other senior management to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic initiatives, such as pricing, product development, and market expansion.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as sales, operations, and procurement to achieve business goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the wholesale or retail industries.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in financial software systems (e.g., Business Dynamics, SAP, Shopify) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and adapt to changing priorities.
