The Department of Sociology is one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Social Sciences. It contains the Stockholm University Demography Unit (SUDA). SUDA is a leading research unit that conducts interdisciplinary research focusing upon the relationships between population processes and various social, economic, cultural and political factors and outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a research assistant (RA) for the Forte-funded project “Diversity preferences, diversity-motivated behaviors and their consequences: a study of foreign-born residents in Sweden at the intersection between country of birth and reason for migration”. The main initial responsibility of the RA will be to conduct a thorough and up-to-date review of the literature on immigrant preferences and how they are captured in experimental survey data. As the project progresses, the responsibilities will diversify to further incorporate the design, implementation and analysis of a survey on migrant diversity preferences in Sweden, as well as working with quantatitive register data (including data cleaning, data setup and analyses). The research assistant will collaborate with the Principal Investigator of the project, Dr Elena Pupaza.

Qualification Requirements

The applicant should have completed studies in sociology, demography, or a related social science at master’s level. Proficiency in STATA, R or Python, and a reference management software such as Zotero or BibTeX is highly desirable. Courses in, or knowledge of, survey methodology and studies of migrants are also useful for this role. Finally, substantial weight will be placed on the applicant’s ability to speak one or more languages that are native to large communities of foreign-born residents in Sweden, including Arabic, Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese, German, or Spanish.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time employment for six months, with the possibility of extension. Start date immediately.
