Position Summary

We are now looking for a Product Technologist to be based in Mossel Bay Factory.

In this role you will be responsible to lead execution and implementation of I&R projects through NPDI process, at optimum cost, desired quality and compliant to local legislations and Nestle standards. To also lead and implement NCE initiatives in manufacturing activities.

A day in the life of a Product Technologist:

I&R Excellence:

  • Lead I&R projects by working in cross-functional teams (marketing, technical and factory) and following the NPDI process from Concept to post-launch:
  • Develop formulations aligned with PTC/R&D Center and in compliance with relevant legislations as well as NF criteria and 60/40 methodology.
  • Determine best packaging solution with packaging technologist.
  • Identify factory requirements for the new products (CAPEX…).
  • Coordinate and lead industrial trials and participate in pHACCP/HACCP studies.
  • Prepare and update Manufacturing dossiers, BOMs, and Specifications for product and process
  • Ensure smooth hand-over to operations with “zero” defect industrialization.

Manufacturing Excellence:

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs and improve quality
  • Lead initiatives on harmonization of recipes and materials for cost reduction
  • Provide technical support to factory on identifying root causes of problems on product quality issues and give recommendations.

Quality and compliance:

  • Ensure all I&R project tasks are aligned with internal standards and processes as per NPDI, GIs/MIs.
  • Get release approval from BU/SBU for new products.
  • Update and maintain recipe management and specification systems.
  • Build quality, regulatory compliance and food safety of new products developed.

What will make you successful?

  • Diploma/Degree in Food Technology/Food Engineering or Microbiology/Biotechnology
  • 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment, and/or product development preferably in FMCG
  • Exposure to both operational and commercial environments.
  • Must be computer literate
  • Working well under-pressure
