Job Description
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Flight Controls Architect to join our exciting team at Sarla Aviation. This person is responsible for designing and optimizing flight control systems for our eVTOL aircraft. As a Flight?Controls Architect, you will leverage your knowledge of eVTOL systems to develop strong, safe, and novel control schemes, while also collaborating closely with our diverse team to guarantee the aircraft operates best under a variety of flying situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and design flight control systems for eVTOL aircraft, ensuring optimal safety and performance.
- Develop advanced flight control algorithms for stability, sensor fusion, and fault tolerance in eVTOL operations.
- Build and run simulations to assess flight control system performance under a variety of situations.
- Collaborate with the propulsion, avionics, and systems teams to integrate flight control systems into the overall vehicle design.
- Define flight control requirements and confirm compliance with industry standards and regulations (such as DO-178C and DO-254).
- Experienced in integrating sensors and actuators with autopilot systems, implementing flight controls, V&V, and evaluating control laws with various tools.
- Support test plans and validate flight control systems using PIL/HIL and flying testing, analysing data to optimise performance.
- Continuously improve flight control systems and address performance issues.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with all applicable aviation standards and certification requirements.
- Keep up with industry developments and use cutting-edge technologies in flight control systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related field.
- 4-6 years of experience in flight controls, specifically within the eVTOL or advanced air mobility (AAM) domain.
- Proven expertise creating flight control algorithms and systems for aircraft, ideally for eVTOL or other vertical flight vehicles.
- Strong understanding of flight dynamics, control theory, and aerodynamics.
- Understanding of ADS-33 and its implications for flight control system development and performance.
- Expertise with modelling and simulation tools for flight control system design (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
- Familiarity with eVTOL certification processes and regulatory frameworks (such as FAA and EASA).
- Experience in safety-critical and fault-tolerant control systems, as well as industry standards like DO-178C and DO-254.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certificates or training in flight control systems and eVTOL technologies.
- Experience designing and validating control systems for autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and testing flight simulation systems, including both hardware and software components.
- Proficient in system integration and cross-functional coordination with various technical teams (propulsion, avionics, structures, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team setting.
