The Director of Transportation is responsible for managing all aspects of the transportation operations within Liquidity Services Retail Supply Chain Group. This role involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods between client facilities, internal warehouses, and customers. The Director will be responsible for leading a team, developing transportation strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive transportation strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services
  • Analyze and optimize transportation routes, resources, and logistics systems to increase efficiency
  • Forecast transportation needs and establish long-term plans for growth and capacity management
  • Develop and manage the transportation budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial targets
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, negotiate rates with third-party carriers, and manage vendor relationships
  • Monitor spending and implement corrective actions as necessary
  • Work closely with other departments (sales, operations, accounting) to coordinate transportation requirements and align with organizational goals
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related matters, both internally and with external stakeholders such as clients and customers
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to senior leadership on key transportation performance metrics, projects, and improvements
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and issues related to transportation services in a timely and effective manner

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of transportation professionals
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to team members, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Develop and monitor team performance metrics to ensure goals are met and maintained

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or related field is required
  • At least 8 years of experience in transportation management, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience managing large-scale transportation operations, including contract management and negotiation
  • Proven track record of driving operational efficiency, cost reduction, and process improvement

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and development
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Deep understanding of transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices
  • Proficient in using transportation management software (TMS) and other logistics tools
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing large budgets
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills

Location:

  • USA Remote: Liquidity Services is a remote-first work environment. Travel

  • 10%- Occasional travel required

Pay & Benefits

Compensation is determined by various factors such as location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as internal and external equity and organizational needs.

The salary range for this position is $134,000 to $167,500annually. The posted range reflects our national average range for the job. We may ultimately pay more or less than the published range based on the factors mentioned above. This range may be modified in the future.
