Job Purpose

Under general supervision administers a proper maintenance and repair program for all locking devices, including but not limited to Keys, Locks, Locking Systems, Doors, Closures, Hardware, Work will be in accordance with code requirements and DJJ Policy and Procedures. Responsibilities include general building maintenance and repairs as assigned. Participation in the Maintenance Department Emergency Call Back Roster as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Performs routine maintenance and repairs on all locking devices and doors within the agency under the direction of the agency Locksmith and General Construction Manager.

Provides for the general maintenance and repair of the agency’s facilities in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Performs multiple professional trades functions as needed to include general carpentry work, repairs, minor construction, painting, drywall repairs, roof repairs, concrete forming, pouring and finishing and preventive maintenance.

Responds to 24-hour emergency call back requests as scheduled. Works outside of traditional hours as needed.

Independently or with others performs construction work as needed.

Remains abreast of new techniques, procedures and equipment in this area.

Performs other related job duties as assigned by supervisors.

State Minimum Requirements

Trades experience related to the area of employment.

Additional Requirements

Demonstrate proficient ability to use all tools, equipment, and materials associated with general building maintenance, light construction, and repairs.

Must have knowledge of locking devices, doors and door hardware and general construction practices and procedures.

Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to develop and maintain an effective preventive maintenance and accountability program.

Must be able to perform general building maintenance.

Must be able to supervise, direct and work with other employees and SCDC Inmates as needed.

Must be able to work independently under general supervision.

Employee expected to exercise good judgement, accepted industry safety practices, and initiative.

Employee must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Employee may have direct or indirect contact with incarcerated youth.

Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Must have working knowledge of general building maintenance and the locksmith trade.

Work involves 24 hour on-call responsibilities for emergency repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
