Overview

Position Summary:

Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to help design and model parts, equipment, tools, and fixtures for the early prototype targets as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting Product Development. They will generate and control parts and prints with revision control through Nusano’s change management system. This individual will collaborate closely with others in the Development & Engineering (D&E), Safety, Purchasing departments and work with external vendors for part manufacturing and procurement. They will also assist in assembling and testing prototype targets in preparation for irradiation.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Create detailed engineering drawings, 2D fabrication prints, and schematics using SolidWorks
  • Generate and maintain all the prints, parts, bill of materials, and assemblies in SolidWorks PDM vault and associated revision control
  • Design, model, source, parts, and equipment required for Product Development targets and equipment
  • Execute GD&T of custom parts, castings, machine parts, sheet metal components and weldments
  • Work with vendors and internal resources to fabricate, assemble, and validate components
  • Develop and conduct formal acceptance procedures for outsourced components
  • Coordinate with vendors to modify, test, and install their equipment
  • Communicate with system-level design teams on any possible fit or interference issues
  • Assist in the design, engineering, assembly and testing of Product Development targets
  • Assist in the simulation and analysis of target models for thermal and mechanical performance

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering disciplines
  • Two years’ employment as a Mechanical Engineer in a similar environment
  • CAD tolerancing, GD&T, Prints within ASME standards
  • Proficient in Solidworks and Solidworks PDM
  • Experience with vacuum systems
  • Experience with component design and material selection
  • Good written and verbal communication across multi-disciplinary groups
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, and machining)
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google, etc.)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with ANSYS software suite or similar FEA software
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, and machining)
  • Precision measurement and inspection
  • Background in research environment
  • Hands-on work with high or ultra-high vacuum and particle accelerators in general

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds
  • Work to be conducted in an office environment, laboratories, engineering R&D, and/or production environment.
  • Must be comfortable working within radiation environments and/or GMP
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Frequent use of a computer with repetitive use of keyboard and mouse
