Awareness of GenAI technology has exploded over the last 12 months. Marketers, creatives and everyday people are both excited and sometimes, a little worried. At Pencil we’ve been on the cutting edge of the AI revolution since 2018 and want to ensure we take a leadership position in communicating a clear and optimistic view on how AI will change the way marketing works.

We’re looking for an experienced SaaS Head of Marketing who knows how to create content flywheels within a company – and use these to deliver brand growth and sales leads. This comes with a few exciting opportunities and challenges. There’s a lot of fear in the world around AI – and dealing with negativity around our content in a genuine way is going to be key. Our product and strategy are complex and technical – we’ll need someone who can help us simplify and add emotion. We’re also literally a content creation machine – we need to find ways of dogfooding our own product to create the kind of marketing that others want for their businesses.

You will need direct experience in creating content yourself and building teams to scale content creation systems – across channels like email, social, search and both virtual and IRL events. You’ll need to be the kind of marketer who knows the power of the weird and the personal – and can tap into creativity to deliver impact. Doing this successfully will help us achieve our mission of making AI the default in advertising without replacing creative people – as well as make you one of the leading voices of the GenAI revolution.

Your day-to-day

  • Working with our sales team to ensure delivery of quality & quantity of sales leads

  • Developing a marketing calendar to reach our buyers (enterprise marketers, procurement, innovation and IT teams) and users (creatives)

  • Setting up and managing a scaled content production flywheel – by directly creating written and video content, as well as working with creators, agencies and/or internal teams 

  • Ongoing enforcement and evolution of our brand identity across all touchpoints

  • Optimizing our performance marketing campaigns delivering website traffic, meeting bookings and self-serve product signups

  • Working with our product, training and creative teams to ensure latest product features and company knowledge is packaged up into marketing materials

  • Ensuring we have an IRL presence at key industry and client events

  • Overseeing our GA4 configuration and other marketing effectiveness tools to properly report on marketing impact

  • Hiring and development of the marketing function within Pencil

  • 7+ years of marketing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role

  • Knowledge of how marketing in fast-growing organizations works best

  • Experience setting up content flywheels and production-efficient marketing processes

  • Experience in marketing for technology, SaaS or GenAI companies

  • Proven ability to collaborate with sales teams and deliver enterprise sales leads

  • Experience in both performance and brand marketing environments

  • Willingness to get hands-on producing written and video content

  • Demonstrated success in managing 6-7 figure marketing budgets
