Job Description
Northern Health is seeking to expand the group of Emergency Physicians working in the brand new Ksyen Regional Hospital in Terrace, BC.
Ksyen Regional Hospital Emergency Department has double coverage between 8am and midnight. The day is divided into 4 shifts, two 8am to 5pm shifts and two 5pm to midnight shifts. Overnight shifts are single coverage from midnight to 8am. Full time employment is approximately 12-14 shifts per month. At 0.5 FTE and 0.75 FTE, this will include approximately 2 and 3 overnights per month, respectively. Scheduling is quite flexible with the opportunity to accommodate vacation requests and other clinical or teaching interests. The FTE component is negotiable, and CCFP-EM is a requirement.
The Emergency Department is very well supported by outstanding specialists and services including Internal Medicine with a 6 bed ICU, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology and Radiology. We have CT, MRI, and ultrasound on site.
Ksyen Regional Hospital welcomed its first patients in November 2024. More than double the size of the previous hospital, it is a center for trauma services, acute care, surgical services pathology, radiology, clinical support and pharmacy services for the Northwest region. The hospital staff prides itself on delivering culturally safe care to our Indigenous populations.

The new hospital will also include a Tier 3 neonatal intensive care unit and special care nursery, which will provide community-based antenatal and postnatal services, education and parenting support to pregnant individuals.
Terrace is proud to support 2 UBC Family Medicine Residents per year as well as 3 Medical Students from the UBC Integrated Community Clerkship program. In addition to teaching, there are opportunities to lead simulations and journal clubs, among other CMEs activities.
Terrace is situated on the traditional territory of the Ts’msyen or “Tsimshian” people. Ts’msyen means “Inside the Skeena River” and the community is built at the confluence of the Kitsumkalum River into the Skeena River. Snow-capped mountains, pristine glacier-fed rivers, lakes and streams all add to the beauty of this community.

During the winter, Shames Mountain plays host to an incredibly welcoming and family friendly ski community with backcountry access to endless backcountry terrain.
Terrace is a vibrant, entrepreneurial, and friendly community with a medical catchment area of approximately 31000. Historically built upon the forestry industry, Terrace has grown into a regional service town with some of the biggest employers in the Northwest with a strong presence in construction, trades, manufacturing, and tourism. There are three secondary and six elementary schools, a Northwest Community College, and a University of British Columbia campus.
