Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

SWAN (Status Workflow and Aggregation) Team

The SWAN team works on building out the scalable distributed systems for processing media that is core to our products. The SWAN team offers observability services of the media processing pipeline. In order to orchestrate media (movies, episodes, events, etc) from the studios onto the streaming platforms, media needs to undergo a substantial amount of processing. This processing ecosystem is complex and constantly evolving. Our team abstracts complexities for consumers through our services, so the media processing pipeline can be more easily monitored and managed.

Responsibilities

You would join a team that works closely together collaborating on projects and initiatives to push our platform forward. You will also frequently work with other teams within the Media Engineering organization to produce successful integrations and excitement to our product consumers. On a typical day you might:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain our software
  • Propose, promote, and develop proof of concepts to improve and evolve our software
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables
  • Present directly to leadership to influence change
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation
  • Provide on-call rotational support as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in programming with Python or Java
  • Desire to work in a start-up, fast-growth, or rapid-change environment
  • Problem-solving skills to identify the root cause
  • Solid communication skills – written, and oral
  • Understanding of agile methodologies and git source control
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience developing software products preferred
  • Some experience with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure
  • Understanding of source control concepts and systems, CI/CD pipelines and exposure to Git
  • Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker. Experience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, etc.)

#DISNEYTECH

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $99,900 to $133,900 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $95,300 to $127,800; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $104,400 to $140,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
