POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Public Service Commission is seeking a full-time Accountant I to provide support to the Budget and Fiscal Director with intermediate level accounting work for the Fiscal Division.
Position Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Examine, analyze, and interpret accounting systems, records, and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
- Perform monthly Account Receivable reconciliations.
- Monitor daily cash receipts ensuring receipts are properly recorded.
- Serve as the travel coordinator and review employee expense accounts ensuring expenditures are properly recorded.
- Serve as the Purchasing Card Program Administrator, review monthly credit card logs, and properly allocated expenditures.
- Assist with the Gross Operating Revenue process for the agency.
- Assist with the administration of the Environmental Surcharge.
- Participate in the audit process by providing explanations of accounting procedures, providing financial schedules, and providing fiscal transaction supporting documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
Experience: One year of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
Notes
- Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing, for the required education.
- Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
- Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
- Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- One year of experience processing Accounts Receivable.
- One year of experience processing Accounts Payable and Expense Reports.
- One year of experience processing Journal Entries.
- One year of experience Allocating Expenditures.
- Experience utilizing FMIS, RSTARs or ADPICS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
