Here’s a summary of responsibilities:

The USOPC Athlete Development & Engagement team seeks a self-motivated, dedicated, and highly compassionate individual to contribute to the strategic development and implementation of transition programming for Team USA Athletes. Working in collaboration with the Associate Director, Athlete Learning & Development, the Athlete Transition Specialist will help to build an impactful onboarding program for Team USA Athletes and expand offboarding opportunities for Team USA Athletes as they transition out of elite sport. Internally, the Specialist will collaborate with USOPC Events & Logistics, USOPC Communications, and Sport Performance to communicate and execute transition programming and education.

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

  • Contribute to developing, scaling, and enhancing Team USA athletes’ onboarding and offboarding programs, ensuring a seamless and comprehensive experience for newcomers and departing athletes.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Athlete Learning & Development, and other key stakeholders to develop programs, create engaging resources, and implement effective feedback mechanisms to continuously improve onboarding and offboarding journeys. This will foster a sense of belonging and support throughout the athlete’s lifecycle.
  • Develop an asynchronous series of learning and development resources for Team USA Athletes retiring from elite competition to support their holistic development during a critical transition period.
  • In collaboration with the Athlete Outreach & Engagement team, develop and align the athlete engagement strategy to keep athletes informed, educated, and engaged around the programs and services offered by the USOPC.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external organizations, USOPC Alumni Relations, USOPF, and educational institutions to expand transition resources available to athletes.
  • Manage the logistics of the in-person transition program, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Ensure that all program activities comply with USOPC policies and procedures.
  • Develop and document best practices and methodologies related to the athlete transition experience. Brainstorm solutions to improve processes that support consistency, transparency, and effective change management.
  • In collaboration with the Athlete Development & Engagement team, develop and prepare metrics to evaluate the success of the athlete transition programming. Develop surveys, prepare and conduct interviews, and plan and facilitate group meetings with key stakeholders to gather and analyze relevant feedback.
  • Manage data collection and analysis for reporting and insights into program impact, learning engagement, athlete experience, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Create and manage a project calendar to outline goals and objectives for the team and measure success in achieving them. Serve as the primary data collector for metrics and milestones in goal achievement.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, preferably with athletes
  • Strong understanding of the unique psychological, social, and professional challenges athletes face
  • Ability to manage complex structures of stakeholders and projects
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective presentation and public speaking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and database management systems
  • Passion for sport and the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement

  • Experience working with athletes or in the sports industry is preferred
  • Prior Olympic or Paralympic Games experience preferred
  • Experience with non-profit organizations preferred

  • Non-traditional hours on occasion, including nights and weekends
  • Some domestic and international travel

Here’s where you’ll work:

  • This home-based position can work from anywhere within the United States.

Here’s some more information you need to know:

  • Hiring Pay Range: $60,000 – $65,482 per year.
  • This full-time, exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 10% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
