Youth and Family Peer Advocate

Job Description

Cayuga Counseling Services, Inc. seeks a Full-time Youth and Family Peer Advocate, to provide formal and informal services and supports to youth and families who are experiencing social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges in their home, school, placement and/or community centered services following a traumatic event. Job Responsibilities

  • Upon receipt of referral, provide peer based, culturally sensitive, trauma informed, and non-judgmental outreach, mentorship and support based on the goals of the enrolled youth’s plan of care.
  • Implement interventions from the youth’s plan of care such as skill building, coaching, self-advocacy, empowerment and establishment of community connections and natural supports.
  • Coordinate group activities such as resiliency and recovery support groups for clients.
  • Participated in local, state and federal meetings as permitted by their schedule.
  • Attend Youth Peer Advocate trainings.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and efficient manner
  • Follows HIPPA regulations and acquires appropriate releases of information.
  • Assists with transportation.
  • Participates in supervision.
  • Performs other duties as required by Program Director.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Clearance through the NYS Central Registry for Child Abuse, Clerance through NYS staff Exclusion list, is required.
  • Candidates must be self-identified as a consumer of mental health service, special education services, juvenile justice or foster care and/or is in recovery from substance abuse and be able to use this lived experience to support others in their resiliency, recovery and wellness.
  • Ability to work with a broad diversity of families, actively and effectively listen and be compassionate and committed to care for youth and supporting their goals.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of community services and the ability to work cooperatively with them; must have ability to document activities accurately.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and proof of automobile Insurance is required.

The Agency Offers

  • 3 weeks PTO in your first year, 4 weeks in your second year
