As a Customer Service Representative in our Finance & Administration Department, you’ll be at the heart of the City of Newberry, directly impacting the lives of residents and becoming a trusted resource for all City visitors. This role goes beyond routine tasks—you’ll be a key player in building positive connections with the community, providing essential support with utility services, and making a real difference in residents’ day-to-day lives.

What You Will Do In This Amazing Role

  • Deliver comprehensive customer service by addressing public inquiries on utility services, billing, and payments.
  • Assist customers with payments at the counter, processing payments accurately across multiple channels, and balancing cash drawers.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints by applying relevant policies, facilitating billing arrangements, and creating work orders for service execution.
  • Set up and maintain new customer accounts, manage equipment tracking, and process meter exchanges.
  • Oversee overdue accounts, process NSF checks, and take appropriate actions on non-collectible accounts.
  • Utilize office technology and computer applications to enter data, generate reports, and organize documentation efficiently.

What You Need to Join This Exceptional Team

  • Education: A high school diploma is required, with additional training in accounting, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: At least two years of customer service experience, ideally in utility billing, banking, or cash handling.
  • Pre-Employment Requirements: Ability to pass pre-employment criminal background and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks.

Physical Requirements

  • Environment: Primarily in an office setting with occasional vehicle operation.
  • Physical Abilities: Sitting, bending, stooping, and computer use.
  • Other: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
