About The Position

Job Title: RN – Med/Surg – Correctional

Department: Correctional Health Services

Location: East Elmhurst, New York, 11370

Start Date: 02/03/2025

• Shift Details:
• Shift: 8:00 PM-8:30 AM – Night Shift
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours per week
• Length of Assignment: 13 weeks
• Target Start Date: 02/03/2025

Duties

This is a position within a correctional health setting. The RN will provide direct nursing care to patients, particularly in medical/surgical settings. The RN will be responsible for the following:

• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Assessing patient conditions and monitoring vital signs.
• Performing IV insertion and phlebotomy.
• Assisting in conscious sedation procedures.
• Maintaining patient records and ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
• Participating in patient education and providing necessary instructions.
• Responding to medical emergencies as required.
• Supporting the overall healthcare team and collaborating on patient care strategies.

Skills

• Required:
• Medical/Surgical nursing experience.
• IV Insertion and phlebotomy.
• Conscious sedation procedures.
• Phlebotomy.
• Emergency Response.
• CPR (Certified).
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Infection Control knowledge.
• Additional Skills:
• Sterile techniques.
• Experience in therapeutic patient care.
• Patient education.
• Experience with laboratory and pharmacy procedures.
• Ability to work with mental health patients.
• Knowledge of medical records management.

• Required:
• New York State RN License
• AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
