Role Overview
This opportunity is with one of Australia and New Zealand’s major providers of essential services. Ventia brings more than 35 years of Defence-related experience and has supported firefighting services for 26 years. Following the award of a new 6-year contract in 2024, with the possibility of two further 2-year extensions, the business is expanding its Fire Services team.
As a Watchroom Operator in Fire and Rescue operations at RAAF Base Pearce in Western Australia, you will support emergency services activity within a Defence environment. The role may suit someone aiming to build a long-term career in emergency communications and Defence support, or someone taking the first step toward becoming a firefighter.
Key Duties
- Help keep the station operationally ready at all times by following Ventia’s relevant policies and procedures.
- Dispatch fire crews to incidents when needed and provide communications and support to the Incident Controller.
- Support the Officer in Charge with the administrative tasks linked to fire station operations.
- Take part in station training and development activities.
Mandatory Qualifications
You must hold one qualification from each of the following five training areas:
- PUAFIR210 Prevent Injury, or an equivalent superseded qualification: PUAFIR215 / PUAFIR201B
- PUAOPE013 Operate Communication Systems and Equipment, or equivalent superseded qualification: PUAOPE013A
- PUATEA001 Work in a Team, or equivalent superseded qualification: PUATEA001B
- PUACOM001 Communicate in the Workplace, or equivalent superseded qualification: PUACOM001C
- PUATEA002 Work Autonomously, or equivalent superseded qualification: PUATEA002B
Preferred Background
Experience in a communications room or similar environment would be an advantage.
Other Requirements
- A strong team-first attitude is important for this position.
- You must be able to obtain a Defence Security Clearance up to Negative Vetting Level 1.
- Because of the security clearance requirement, applicants must be Australian citizens.
