Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join the team in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This position requires over 8 years of IT experience and places ownership on administering SQL Server environments while ensuring strong performance, reliability, data integrity, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support SQL Server databases across versions 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
- Maintain database structure with a solid understanding of physical and logical design concepts.
- Monitor SQL Server and operating system performance, then apply the necessary tuning and configuration changes.
- Implement and support high-availability solutions such as Always On, mirroring, replication, and log shipping.
- Set up and maintain SQL Server clusters, including both active-passive and active-active configurations.
- Handle multiple operational activities such as incident and ticket management, upgrades, and deployment work.
- Design and support disaster recovery solutions, including SAN-based replication.
- Perform SQL Server upgrades and patching to keep systems current and stable.
- Migrate data across SQL Server versions or instances and integrate data from different source systems.
- Analyze performance and improve database efficiency through index tuning, query tuning, and resource optimization.
- Use tools such as SQL Profiler, Database Tuning Advisor, and related utilities for diagnostics and optimization.
- Administer SQL Server business intelligence components such as SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS.
- Apply database security controls, including Dynamic Data Masking and other protection measures.
- Prepare and review performance reports using SQL Server Management Data Warehouse and Performance Dashboard reports.
- Write SQL scripts to automate routine maintenance and administration tasks.
- Tune SQL queries and work with network and storage teams on related performance and infrastructure needs.
- Connect SQL Server data with other RDBMS platforms such as Oracle and open-source databases using linked servers and Oracle Gateway.
- Support integration with tools such as Power BI and SCOM, along with other enterprise products.
- Carry out capacity planning, auditing, and database system administration optimization.
- Review server architecture for possible consolidation opportunities while preserving performance and minimizing downtime.
- Plan cost-saving database consolidation initiatives.
- Work in large OT environments and mixed-network setups involving standard TCP/IP as well as nonstandard networking protocols.
- Identify root causes of outages, reduce restoration time, and help prevent recurring service disruptions.
- Anticipate issues before they become outages and support long-term stability improvements.
Experience and Technical Fit
The ideal candidate should bring deep hands-on SQL Server administration experience, strong troubleshooting ability, and a practical approach to performance, security, and business continuity. Familiarity with cloud architecture is useful, and Azure certification is considered an advantage.
