Role Overview

This opening is for an SAP BPC techno-functional consultant based in Hyderabad. The work involves supporting financial planning, budgeting, and consolidation solutions across both BPC Standard and BPC Embedded landscapes.

About the Platforms

SAP BPC Standard and SAP BPC Embedded are two related but different approaches to planning and consolidation. BPC Standard is more of a self-managed planning environment for business teams, while BPC Embedded is tightly connected with SAP BW or SAP S/4HANA to enable real-time planning using existing BW master data and hierarchies without duplicating data.

BPC Standard Responsibilities

In the standard model, the line of business typically owns the solution while IT sets up the base platform. The data model relies on generated BW objects that remain mostly hidden from end users, with CATE-style modeling around Account, Time, and Entity dimensions.

• Create and maintain dimensions, members, and planning models through the BPC web interface.
• Support and maintain BPC script logic used for calculations.
• Handle data loading, transfers, and Data Manager packages.
• Work with BPC task profiles and data access profiles for security control.
• Support business teams in operating independently with a high level of ownership and flexibility.

BPC Embedded Responsibilities

In the embedded model, ownership is shared between IT and the business. The solution uses BW-native objects such as InfoCubes and DataStore Objects, and modeling is performed in BW using Eclipse-based tools.

• Design BW queries in Analysis for Office.
• Define aggregation levels for planning processes.
• Build planning logic using FOX formulas or ABAP where required.
• Work with the no-data-copy approach by using direct access to underlying BW data.
• Extend master data and attributes through BW rather than only through the web layer.
• Apply BW analysis authorizations for security.

Additional Information

The embedded approach is suitable for large-scale planning environments, especially where SAP HANA integration and real-time simulation are important. It supports deep BW integration and high-volume processing, while the standard approach is better suited to business-led ownership and flexibility.
