Network Technician

Role overview

Starlink Qatar is looking for an accomplished Network Technician to support its network infrastructure operations from Doha, Qatar. The role centers on hands-on work with passive network systems, documentation, site assessment, and remote technical assistance.

Core duties

• Install, maintain, and repair passive network cabling, including UTP, FOC, multi-core, and LAN setups.
• Carry out routine checks to ensure network systems remain operational and dependable.
• Visit sites to inspect conditions, document findings, and prepare detailed reports and Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
• Track and manage inventory for network components and related materials.
• Plan and deploy cabling overlays for special events and temporary requirements.
• Use network tools and testers effectively to diagnose and verify cabling and connectivity.
• Mount and patch active devices as part of network setup and maintenance.
• Maintain network drawings, patching matrices, and other technical records.
• Provide remote support when required.
• Work closely with team members and communicate technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of total experience in IT support, including 2 to 3 years specifically as a Network Technician.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science or Electronics & Communication Science.
• Strong practical knowledge of installing, maintaining, and repairing UTP, FOC, multi-core, and LAN cabling.
• Hands-on experience with mounting and patching active network equipment and handling patching schedules.
• Ability to use passive networking tools such as cable testers, crimpers, and Fluke testers.
• Experience conducting detailed site inspections and preparing accurate BOQ documents.
• Capability to create and update technical documentation, network diagrams, and patching matrices.
• Solid understanding of network infrastructure standards and best practices.

Preferred qualifications

• Professional IT certifications such as CISA or similar network-related credentials are an advantage.
• Prior exposure to large-scale event or venue-based environments is desirable.
• Experience in designing cabling layouts and temporary event-based installations is beneficial.
• Familiarity with inventory management systems for network parts and equipment is preferred.
• Strong communication skills for working with non-technical stakeholders are valued.
