Role overview

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is advancing the redevelopment of the Obuasi Gold Mine into a modern, highly efficient, and profitable long-term underground operation. The mine is being fully mechanised and is expected to produce an average of up to 5,000 tonnes of ore per day. The company is looking for an experienced, self-driven Materials Planner to join the team in Obuasi.

Purpose of the role

This position is accountable for carrying out daily, weekly, and monthly materials planning work and supporting decisions related to materials requirements and stock control at the mine. The role works closely with Operations, Planned Maintenance, Warehousing, Purchasing, and Finance, under the direction of the Materials Planning Superintendent, and contributes to performance, standards, KPIs, and risk management within AngloGold Ashanti’s materials management, materials engineering, and supply chain frameworks.

Key responsibilities

  • Run the established materials planning activities, including CIR processing, cataloguing of new items, materials engineering tasks, and stock replenishment work for the Obuasi redevelopment, including operations readiness needs.
  • Follow approved processes for creating and maintaining SAP records for stock and non-stock items, ensuring accurate and high-quality materials master data.
  • Use the required tools and documentation to support workflow between Materials Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Planned Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations, so that reviews and replenishment decisions are well informed.
  • Apply governance rules so that only routine items with verified future demand and essential critical spares are catalogued for stocking and purchasing.
  • Guide users on substitute items, specification changes, description or part number supersessions, and requests for new stock codes.
  • Build personal capability through training and development in cataloguing, materials planning, and SAP ERP-based best practices.
  • Work with materials planning models for critical and routine spares and consumables, using SAP-based review and replenishment processes.
  • Collect, assess, and interpret data with a high level of accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Review SAP replenishment reports objectively and provide practical recommendations.
  • Track and prompt PR-to-PO cycle times issued by Buyers to help meet internal KPI targets.
  • Collaborate across departments and provide materials planning guidance to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare internal and statutory reports covering stock value, stock turnover, service levels, obsolete stock, new stock introductions, value of new stock introductions, critical item service levels, monthly complaints received and resolved, and monthly statutory MinCom returns.
  • Maintain regular feedback and communication with peers and supervisors.

Qualifications and experience

A minimum of HND is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations Management will be an added advantage. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in a supply chain environment, along with working knowledge of inventory planning and control in mining, oil and gas, or heavy industrial equipment operations. Experience with SAP ERP or a similar ERP platform is required.

Technical and professional strengths

The ideal candidate should understand inventory planning and control, including forecasting and statistical modelling, and be able to align inventory planning with commodity strategies. Strong awareness of the relationship between stock-out risk, service level targets, and inventory investment is essential. The role also calls for sound analytical and problem-solving ability, presentation skills, knowledge of local regulations, cost management, project management, risk management, change management, reporting, and audit/compliance/governance practices.
