Role overview
Trimble’s CTCT division is seeking a DevOps Manager in Christchurch, New Zealand. This position is a mix of team leadership and technical direction, centered on shaping the future of developer infrastructure tooling across both on-premises and cloud environments. CTCT, a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar, builds positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving equipment used in construction and mining. These systems use technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers, IMUs, and sonic sensors to deliver accurate horizontal and vertical guidance for machine operators.
What you will do
- Guide, coach, and grow a distributed DevOps team working across three locations, while encouraging strong collaboration and high performance.
- Set the direction and execution plan for developer infrastructure tooling, making thoughtful choices between on-premises and public cloud investment.
- Work closely with product development, platform engineering, and security stakeholders to keep infrastructure priorities aligned with business goals.
- Take ownership of planning, staffing, and delivery schedules for infrastructure programs and projects.
- Create and improve engineering standards, operational playbooks, and incident response processes.
- Strengthen CI/CD reliability, improve build performance, and make developer workflows faster and smoother.
- Steer hybrid infrastructure planning, including capacity forecasting, spend optimization, and cloud migration decisions.
- Promote infrastructure-as-code, observability, and automation practices across teams and systems.
- Share updates on team wellbeing, delivery progress, and infrastructure performance metrics with senior leaders.
What you need
- At least 5 years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering, including a minimum of 2 years managing people.
- Proven ability to lead distributed or remote engineering teams operating across different time zones.
- Solid technical grounding in CI/CD, container orchestration, infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, and configuration management.
- Practical experience with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with on-premises systems.
- Ability to define technical strategy, build roadmaps, and deliver complex infrastructure work on time.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to present to both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience with developer tooling and productivity platforms is highly valued.
Preferred background
- Experience running enterprise-level internal developer platforms.
- Understanding of site reliability engineering practices and large-scale production operations.
- Experience managing budgets and negotiating with vendors for infrastructure services.
- History of building inclusive engineering teams built on trust across different cultures and geographies.
Location and working environment
