About the Team

Cisco’s Cloud Security Engineering group builds the technologies that help customers protect networks and users. In this role, you would join the SSE Control Plane organization and work on core microservices that power cloud network experience, traffic optimization, and insights for platforms such as Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access.

This opportunity is aimed at a recent graduate who has a solid base in computer science, software engineering, cloud concepts, and automation, and is eager to grow in the DevOps space. You will gain exposure to modern cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, container platforms, observability, automation, and production support while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Support development and operations teams in streamlining and improving software delivery workflows.
• Learn to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that help move code safely from development into production.
• Assist in tracking application and infrastructure health through monitoring and observability tools.
• Help diagnose and resolve issues across applications, cloud platforms, and infrastructure components.
• Work with engineering teams to strengthen deployment, testing, automation, and operational processes.
• Build knowledge of cloud security, reliability, scalability, and incident response practices.
• Create and enhance scripts, utilities, and automation that increase engineering efficiency.
• Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and system administrators to keep production services running smoothly.
• Keep learning new tools, methods, and practices in cloud engineering, DevOps, and site reliability engineering.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
• Suitable for a fresh graduate or early-career candidate with a strong interest in Cloud DevOps, SRE, infrastructure, or automation.
• Basic understanding of software development principles and operating system fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, Bash, or Shell.
• Comfort with Unix/Linux environments and common command-line operations.
• Introductory knowledge of cloud computing concepts, including compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
• Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure through studies, projects, internships, or self-directed learning.
• Awareness of DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, automation, build pipelines, deployment, and infrastructure as code.
• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker; Kubernetes knowledge is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Interest in learning, experimenting, and adapting quickly in a fast-moving technology setting.

Preferred Background

• Academic work, internship experience, or personal projects related to cloud, DevOps, automation, or backend systems.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
• Basic familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
• Introductory networking knowledge covering DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Experience with monitoring or logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, or comparable systems.
• Basic understanding of microservices-based architecture.
• Interest in cloud security, distributed systems, production operations, and reliability engineering.
• Ability to pick up new technologies and tools quickly.

Team and Work Style

You will collaborate with the Cloud Security Control Plane Engineering team, which develops and operates core control plane services for Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access. The environment supports learning, experimentation, and strong engineering practices, with close interaction across Cloud Security Engineering and other teams in Cisco.

• Partner with developers, DevOps engineers, systems engineers, and cloud infrastructure teams.
• Learn from senior engineers through hands-on work, reviews, and technical guidance.
• Work with cross-functional groups to understand infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, and automation needs.
• Contribute to building cloud services that are reliable, scalable, and secure.
