Role overview
This opportunity is for a Bookkeeper based in Killarney, County Kerry, working with a varied portfolio of client companies across several sectors. The role reports to the Financial Controller and is designed for someone with practice-based accounting experience who is ready to move into an in-house business setting. It offers hands-on involvement in day-to-day finance work, exposure to commercial decisions, and responsibility for bookkeeping across multiple group entities.
Key responsibilities
- Keep accounting records accurate and up to date across several companies within the group.
- Handle supplier invoice processing and help ensure creditors and debtor balances are settled on time.
- Carry out reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany balances.
- Maintain fixed asset records when needed.
- Prepare VAT returns and submit them in line with Revenue requirements.
- Support statutory compliance tasks and retain the backing documents required.
- Prepare company records, including assistance with dormant company accounts where relevant.
- Make sure records remain complete, accurate, and ready for audit.
- Post journals and manage accruals and prepayments.
- Contribute to month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Work alongside the Financial Controller on finance matters across multiple group businesses.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow tracking.
- Take part in finance projects and initiatives aimed at improving processes.
Experience and background
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of bookkeeping experience gained in an accountancy practice and be comfortable working with double-entry bookkeeping. Experience with preparing company accounts and dormant accounts is important, as is a solid track record in VAT returns and reconciliations. A qualification such as ATI, IATI, AAT, or an equivalent accountancy credential is required.
Salary
The pay for this position is around €40,000.
