About the Team

The Authentication Security team is responsible for the core trust layer of Workday’s platform. It creates and supports the services that sit at the entry point of the ecosystem, with a focus on secure, dependable, and smooth access for millions of users while helping safeguard their data.

About the Role

Workday is seeking an experienced Software Developer to help design and deliver resilient authentication systems. This role calls for a practical technical leader who is comfortable building scalable distributed security infrastructure and working through complex identity and security challenges. You will help implement important authentication standards and contribute to solutions that remain stable under heavy usage.

What You’ll Do

• Partner with engineering and product leadership to shape the security platform vision, strategy, and roadmap.
• Architect and build dependable, high-throughput services, reusable libraries, and APIs that support secure authentication.
• Create internal tools that improve code reliability and make security services easier to adopt.
• Apply strong software design principles and promote good engineering patterns across the team.
• Work with support and engineering teams to troubleshoot customer problems, correct defects, and deliver new functionality.
• Help maintain a team environment that encourages iteration, learning, and innovation.
• Contribute independently while knowing when to involve teammates for guidance or alignment.
• Take part in the on-call rotation and lead incident response when service restoration is needed quickly.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver outcomes that matter.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software development experience, including technical leadership, complex system design, and work on scalable, maintainable products.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with object-oriented languages such as Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of resilient service patterns such as backpressure, idempotency, timeouts, and circuit breaking.
• Deep experience in REST API development and microservices design and implementation.
• A bachelor’s degree in a computer-related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience building security, identity, authentication, or authorization solutions using open standards such as SAML and OIDC.
• Strong knowledge of identity standards and protocols, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Redis and MySQL.
• Practical experience with source control and CI/CD tooling such as Git, Bitbucket, and Jenkins.
• Working knowledge of Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
• Ability to write technical design documents and collaborate effectively within a software engineering team.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role in Ireland is €72,000 to €108,000 per year. Final compensation may vary based on experience, skills, education, role scope, and work location. The role may also qualify for a bonus plan or role-specific commission/bonus, along with annual refresh stock grants as part of total compensation.

Flexible Work

This position follows Workday’s Flex Work approach, which blends in-person collaboration with remote flexibility. Team members are generally expected to spend at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners, depending on the role. Remote home office roles may also gather in offices for key moments when needed.
