Role overviewThis position is responsible for steering plant output, coordinating resources such as materials and manpower, and ensuring the unit meets its operational targets while staying compliant with all production, quality, cost, safety, and regulatory requirements.Key responsibilitiesThe role includes planning, execution, compliance, safety, and team leadership responsibilities. In addition to the core duties listed below, the incumbent may be assigned other tasks by senior management as needed.Strategic and functional planningContribute to the plant’s short- and long-term operating plans in line with business and segment asset operations strategy.Translate plant objectives into actionable plans for the production function.Work with business and segment leaders to identify new production initiatives and projects, then build operating plans to support future needs.Review the plant’s technology and engineering roadmap and provide manufacturing-side inputs so production plans stay aligned.Manage the allocated budget carefully and keep actual spending close to plan.Operations managementStudy the production plan and build weekly and monthly execution plans based on available resources and current operating conditions.Guide the team to deliver the plan, monitor progress, and step in when performance varies from target.Drive improvements in production quality, reduction of waste, and faster turnaround times.Run weekly or biweekly team reviews to cover production status, critical actions taken, and deviations from plan.Coordinate the procurement and availability of chemicals, catalyst, and consumables as per the schedule.Review preventive maintenance and share feedback with the maintenance team to support equipment uptime.Study regular production MIS reports, including work-in-progress, inventory, actual vs planned output, and category-wise production trends, then act on gaps.Track key KPIs such as OMPRO and other critical metrics, and close recurring process deviations through root-cause analysis and action plans.Lead shutdown planning and ensure operating discipline and HSEF requirements are followed on the plant floor.Work with quality, CES, EHS, and technology teams to identify issues and implement solutions that improve the production process.Workplace safety and environmentEnsure production practices comply with safety, fire, and environmental standards to maintain a safe workplace for all plant personnel.Monitor and control incidents such as fire, leaks, spills, and other safety events that could cause injury or production loss.Review potential safety, fire, and environmental hazards regularly, identify the root cause, and implement corrective barriers and actions.Support the plant manager with periodic updates to the plant risk register.Investigate major safety incidents with the safety team and implement actions to prevent recurrence.Maintain updated documentation and statutory records related to safety, fire, and environmental compliance.Align production activities with environmental goals and broader organizational sustainability commitments.Support emergency response efforts during fire or safety incidents and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for quick closure.Compliance and auditsParticipate in internal and external audits, review observations with relevant teams, and implement the agreed corrective actions.Ensure recommendations from PSM and safety audits are carried out in operations.Support the Plant Head in maintaining compliance and improving standards.Perform risk assessments for one-time and non-routine activities, identify possible hazards, and prepare action plans.Policies, processes, and proceduresRoll out approved policies, processes, and procedures issued by the plant head and ensure they are followed.Spot opportunities to improve policies and processes through best practices, productivity enhancement, cost reduction, and business process improvement.Track daily activities to confirm adherence to prescribed procedures.People managementTake part in hiring activities and support team retention and engagement.Set performance goals for the team, review appraisals, and provide regular coaching and feedback.Mentor team members so they can take on larger and more complex responsibilities.Assess learning and development needs and recommend suitable training interventions.Validate and support the verification of competency assurance for field executives, panel engineers, shift engineers, and shift in-charges against defined task tests.Education and experienceA bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology with a specialization in Chemical, Petrochemical, or Polymer is required. A Diploma in Chemical Engineering is also acceptable. The role calls for 5 to 9 years of relevant experience, with significant exposure to combined cycle gas or liquid fuel power plants. Candidates with a diploma must bring 15 to 18 years of relevant experience.
