Role overview

This position is based in Wangara, Western Australia, and involves industrial spray painting work for valves and related components in a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on producing coatings that meet required specifications for thickness, finish, durability, and quality, while working safely and efficiently as part of a broader operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Get valves and components ready for coating by cleaning, masking, and completing surface preparation according to instructions and safety standards.
• Carry out industrial painting using conventional and airless spray equipment, ensuring the coating system, film build, and finish match the required specifications.
• Check finished work by measuring and testing coating quality, including film thickness and coverage, and raise any issues that need correction.
• Improve application methods over time to support better consistency, durability, and appearance of coatings, while contributing ideas for process improvement.
• Clean, service, and carry out basic fault-finding on spray guns, extraction systems, and related tools so they operate safely and reliably.
• Store, label, and handle paints, thinners, and cleaning materials in line with environmental, health, and safety procedures.
• Keep the spray booth, equipment, and shared work areas clean and organised, including day-to-day housekeeping.
• Follow all safety, health, and environmental rules, use the correct PPE, take part in safety activities, and report hazards or improvement opportunities proactively.
• Help train and coach other team members in spray painting methods and good practices to strengthen site capability.
• Work closely with Assembly, Operations, and Quality teams to ensure products are completed on time and meet customer expectations.

What the company is looking for

• Practical background in industrial spray painting, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or a workshop setting.
• Hands-on experience with both conventional and airless spray systems for industrial coatings.
• Ability to apply multi-coat and two-pack paint systems to achieve the right film thickness and a high-quality, even finish.
• Skill in diagnosing common spray painting defects such as runs, orange peel, and poor coverage, and adjusting technique or equipment settings accordingly.
• Experience checking coating thickness and quality using suitable measurement methods and tools.
• Experience using overhead cranes and attachments to move products and components safely.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely during preparation and finishing tasks.
• Comfort working within structured health, safety, and environmental procedures and a strong personal commitment to safe work.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow specifications, work instructions, and records accurately.
• Reliable team player who is willing to support colleagues across the operation when needed.
• Relevant high-risk licences such as an overhead crane licence and LF forklift licence, or a willingness to obtain them with support.

Preferred background

• Experience with valve assembly or similar engineered mechanical products.
• Previous work in an engineering factory or heavy industrial setting.
• Exposure to quality assurance systems, documentation practices, and non-conformance reporting.
• Formal manual handling training or a current First Aid Certificate.
• Involvement in continuous improvement work focused on safety, quality, or efficiency.
• Experience coaching or training others in spray painting or safe work practices.
• Comfort in a customer-focused environment where quality, reliability, and on-time delivery matter.
