Role overview

This position focuses on planning, analysing, and improving the capacity of infrastructure across storage, networks, midrange systems, and mainframe environments. The goal is to ensure business demand is met on time, while keeping costs sensible and efficient.

The role also involves reviewing historical data and trends to estimate future capacity needs, resolving capacity-related challenges before they escalate, and improving utilisation through targeted efficiency initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Set monitoring and alert thresholds for capacity and performance based on service design requirements.
• Build, update, and maintain capacity plans for assigned products and services.
• Use historical and trend-based analysis to predict future capacity requirements.
• Track capacity-related incidents and problems, then put preventive measures in place to reduce repeat issues.
• Improve capacity utilisation by identifying and driving efficiency initiatives.
• Prepare capacity reports and performance metrics for capacity management and other related teams.
• Carry out capacity planning at both IT component/resource level and IT service level.

Qualifications and experience

A BSc in Information Management Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is required. Professional certification in infrastructure platforms or capacity management tools is a plus, and ITIL Foundation V3/V4 would be an added advantage.

The role calls for 1–2 years of experience as a capacity planner, hands-on systems engineer, performance analyst, or information systems modeller on relevant platforms. Experience with capacity planning tools and the use of statistical methods to evaluate capacity usage and forecast demand is also expected.
