Role overview
South Wales Police is seeking an experienced Digital Print Operator to join its in-house Printing Department. This is an opportunity to work within a long-established print facility that supports the organisation’s varied printing needs from its headquarters in Bridgend.
The successful person will produce a broad range of high-quality printed and large-format materials, handling everything from artwork preparation through to printing, finishing and installation/application. The role calls for strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a busy production environment.
What you will do
- Run and maintain SRA3 digital production presses along with associated finishing equipment.
- Operate large-format print devices, print-and-cut machines, plotters, direct-to-object printers and finishing tools.
- Create a variety of output such as brochures, leaflets, reports, booklets, posters, banners, signage, exhibition graphics, vehicle graphics and promotional items.
- Prepare artwork files and verify them for production readiness.
- Coordinate print jobs and production timetables so work is completed efficiently and on time.
- Check colour accuracy, print consistency and overall quality throughout production.
- Carry out routine maintenance, basic fault-finding and troubleshooting to reduce equipment downtime.
- Perform finishing tasks including cutting, trimming, folding, creasing, laminating, mounting, binding, perforating and booklet making.
- Apply graphics, signs and other printed materials to different surfaces where needed.
- Track stock levels for paper, substrates, inks, toners and consumables, supporting inventory control.
- Follow health and safety requirements, departmental standards and environmentally responsible practices at all times.
Working style and expectations
You should be comfortable handling multiple tasks in a fast-moving production setting and delivering reliable, high-quality results to demanding deadlines. The role requires someone who can work independently as well as contribute effectively as part of a small team.
Additional requirements
A current, valid driving licence is essential, as travel across the South Wales Police area and property portfolio will be required. The successful candidate must also be willing to undergo vetting to RV Vetting.
Equal opportunities and recruitment support
South Wales Police welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds. The organisation particularly encourages applications from ethnically diverse candidates, as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people are currently underrepresented within the Force.
A Guaranteed Interview Scheme is available for candidates who live with a disability or identify as ethnically diverse. To be considered under this scheme, applicants must meet the essential minimum criteria and clearly evidence this in their application form, personal statement and/or CV.
Employment terms
If you are an internal candidate subject to an ongoing PSD investigation, your appointment or placement may be delayed until the outcome is known. Any decision to keep the role open will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Benefits
The organisation offers a range of benefits, including learning and development opportunities, lifestyle and wellbeing support, generous Local Government Pension Scheme / Police Pension Schemes, paid annual leave, flexible working and family-friendly policies.
