About the Company

MGallery Nairobi Gigiri is planned to include 105 rooms and suites, four dining outlets including an all-day dining venue, a signature restaurant, a pool bar, and a rooftop restaurant and bar, along with meeting spaces, a business centre, and wellness amenities such as a gym, pool, and spa. Located on Gigiri’s Limuru Road near Nairobi’s city centre and Village Market, the property is expected to serve UN and NGO delegates, consultants, contractors, diplomats, leisure travellers, and the local community.
Role Overview
The Bartender will be responsible for delivering beverage service to high standards, maintaining strong product knowledge, supporting smooth bar operations, and ensuring guests receive efficient and courteous service in a premium hospitality setting.
Key Duties
- Mix and serve drinks in line with established recipes and service procedures.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the bar menu, beverage list, and cocktail preparation methods.
- Look for opportunities to increase sales through thoughtful upselling.
- Provide prompt, professional, and friendly service to every guest.
- Prepare mise-en-place and complete supporting side tasks before, during, and after service.
- Raise and collect the necessary food and beverage requisitions and general supply requests.
- Follow all opening and closing routines for the outlet and check beverage inventory regularly.
- Prepare cocktail garnishes and maintain the knowledge needed to match garnishes with each drink.
- Keep the bar station and surrounding area neat, hygienic, and well organized.
- Track operating supplies and help minimize breakage, spoilage, and waste.
- Respond to guest questions and requests in a polite and efficient manner.
- Build positive guest relationships and support a welcoming bar atmosphere.
- Handle cashiering tasks and follow outlet cash-handling procedures accurately.
- Display premium spirits and other beverages attractively and according to required quantity standards.
- Keep garnishes ready at opening to support quick service.
- Support and coach new team members through practical on-the-job guidance.
- Assist in banqueting or other departmental assignments when required.
- Contribute to staff training so colleagues can perform their duties effectively.
- Help with monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual inventory checks for operating equipment.
- Remain adaptable and willing to rotate across different Food & Beverage sections.
- Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
Requirements
- Prior customer service experience is needed, preferably in an upscale hospitality environment.
- Previous experience working as a bartender is required.
- Experience using a point-of-sale system is preferred.
- Strong verbal communication and organizational abilities are important.
- Good interpersonal skills and practical problem-solving capability are expected.
- Must be dependable, accountable, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Should be comfortable working under pressure in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a small team and also work independently is necessary.
- Must stay attentive to guest needs while remaining calm and courteous at all times.
- Completion of a server training program is required.
- Previous service experience in a luxury environment is mandatory.
Additional Information
This position requires flexibility to support different sub-sections within the Food & Beverage department and to take on related duties as assigned by the manager. The role also involves regular participation in inventory-related activities and support for team development through training and coaching.
Work Environment
This is an onsite full-time role in Nairobi, Kenya, within a luxury hotel environment that serves a diverse international and local clientele.
