About GIGA Labs
GIGA Labs, situated in Bangalore, is a key component of Schneider Electric's Innovation & Technology Labs. As part of the global Schneider network, our labs hold accreditations from NABL, UL, DEKRA, and ASTA. We are a dynamic team of over 70 engineers specializing in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Digital, Prototyping, Environmental, and Microgrids across various product categories.
We are seeking an experienced engineer with deep expertise in Circuit Breakers, Switchboards, Busways, and Distribution Boxes. This role offers the exciting opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams, global labs, and marketing departments on cutting-edge technologies and innovations within Schneider Electric. You will have the chance to experiment, explore, and develop new ideas in both electrical and data science domains.
Reporting directly to the Lab Manager, this position is based in Bangalore.
Responsibilities
- Lead key projects related to switchboards and circuit breakers.
- Coach Project Test Leaders (PTLs) by providing guidance on developing robust Verification and Validation (V&V) test plans, considering technical specifications, functional and factory requirements (FFR), voice of the customer (VOC), wiring rules, and earthing systems.
- Guide and train PTLs and Test Engineers on conducting functional and performance tests to ensure product operation and compliance with industry standards.
- Analyze test results, identify issues, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose product failures during testing to ensure prompt resolution.
- Collaborate closely with design and engineering teams to foster the development of efficient and reliable products.
- Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and standards in circuit breaker and switchboard testing.
- Partner with the marketing team to develop and present webinars and training sessions for internal teams and customers.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and regulations during testing activities.
- Maintain the technical competency of the test laboratory by following quality management system procedures (e.g., NABL 17025) for national and international accreditation.
- Provide mentorship to enhance expertise in short circuit breaking capabilities within the team.
- Build and maintain a strong network with other labs, such as UL, CPRI, and ERDA, for knowledge sharing and best practices.
- Collaborate with the lab manager to define the lab's strategy and roadmap, aligning with Schneider Electric's mission and vision.
- Represent Schneider Electric and present technical findings at various platforms.
- Monitor developments in industry standards and conduct gap analyses for competency and infrastructure.
- Support the team in implementing lab automation projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
- Extensive experience in the testing and inspection of circuit breakers and switchboards is essential.
- A comprehensive understanding of key industry standards including IEC61439 -1, IEC 61439-2, IEC 61439-3, IEC 61439-6, IEC60947-1, EC60947-2, IEC60947-3, IEC60947-4, IEC60898, IEC61009, and IEC61008.
- Proficiency with the National Electrical Code, earthing systems, and wiring rules.
- Demonstrated experience in circuit breaker and switchboard testing, ideally within a manufacturing or testing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, circuit breakers, and switchboards.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC, ANSI, and UL.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Proficiency in operating testing equipment and tools.
- Exceptional communication and technical report writing skills.
- A detail-oriented approach, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A knack for creative problem-solving and thinking outside the box.
- High-level technical writing proficiency.
