About the Role
The hiring organization is a corporate venture investment platform backed by one of Singapore’s leading listed deep tech groups. It focuses on investing in and collaborating with high-potential deep technology and frontier technology businesses, combining disciplined venture investing with the strategic reach of a large corporate group. Through its parent group, it can offer industry relationships, operating support, market access, technical depth, commercial collaboration and patient strategic capital.
The platform targets companies that can help drive future growth and innovation across sectors tied to the Group’s long-term priorities. Relevant areas include advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation, industrial AI, enterprise and infrastructure software, semiconductors, climate and energy technologies, medtech, biotech tools, materials science, mobility and other deep tech fields where technical differentiation and strategic relevance are central.
The platform has a dual mandate: to deliver strong financial performance through rigorous venture investing, and to generate strategic value for the wider Group by identifying technologies, businesses and partnerships that can expand long-term competitive advantage, open adjacent opportunities and strengthen innovation across the enterprise.
As the platform enters its next stage of growth, it is looking for a Venture Partner to help source and assess investment opportunities, support portfolio companies, expand ecosystem connectivity and contribute to strategic value creation across the portfolio.
The Opportunity
This is a senior appointment for someone with substantial experience as an investor, founder, operator or sector specialist, paired with strong judgment, a high-quality network and deep credibility in one or more relevant technology domains.
The Venture Partner will play a key part in spotting exceptional founders and differentiated technologies early, evaluating both investment merit and strategic relevance, and helping turn venture opportunities into commercial and strategic outcomes for the Group.
The role suits a person who can think like an investor, act like an operator and speak with the authority of an industry insider. The successful candidate should be equally comfortable in founder meetings, investment discussions, technical or commercial diligence, portfolio problem-solving and senior stakeholder conversations within a corporate environment.
The Venture Partner will work closely with the platform leadership, investment team, portfolio founders, co-investors and senior stakeholders across the broader Group. Depending on background, the role may lean toward specific sectors, themes, stages or strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Find venture opportunities that fit the platform’s mandate and the Group’s strategic priorities.
- Develop and manage a strong flow of proprietary and relationship-led opportunities across deep tech, frontier technology and innovation-driven sectors.
- Build durable relationships with founders, repeat entrepreneurs, research institutions, universities, venture funds, accelerators, incubators, family offices, corporate innovation teams and other ecosystem participants.
- Track emerging technology themes, market turning points and innovation gaps relevant to the platform’s focus.
- Stay visible across Singapore, Southeast Asia and relevant global innovation ecosystems to identify differentiated companies before they become widely marketed.
- Assess opportunities by reviewing team quality, technology defensibility, product maturity, commercial traction, market size, business model strength, capital needs, scaling risk, competitive position and strategic fit with the Group.
- Lead or assist with commercial, strategic and market diligence, including founder references, customer and partner references, market mapping, competitor review, business model evaluation and go-to-market analysis.
- Work with internal and external experts to assess technical feasibility, engineering maturity, product readiness, regulatory routes, manufacturing readiness, deployment complexity and other deep tech diligence topics where needed.
- Form clear investment opinions and communicate conviction, upside scenarios, risks and mitigations in a structured, commercially grounded way.
- Prepare polished investment documents such as screening memos, investment papers, market theses, sector reviews, portfolio updates and recommendation notes for internal decision-making.
- Take part in investment committee discussions and contribute to decisions through sound judgment, clear analysis and balanced risk assessment.
- Assist with transaction structuring and execution, including syndicate discussions, term sheet input, investor coordination and engagement with legal, finance and compliance stakeholders as needed.
- Evaluate how potential investments could create strategic value for the broader Group, not just financial return.
- Identify ways for portfolio or pipeline companies to work with the Group through pilots, proofs of concept, commercial partnerships, distribution agreements, industrial collaborations, technical validation, market access support, manufacturing partnerships or other strategic initiatives.
- Work with business units and senior Group stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and match startup capabilities, technologies and partnership opportunities to those needs.
- Serve as a bridge between founders and corporate stakeholders, helping both sides manage timing, expectations, incentives and practical constraints to support long-term value creation.
- Support portfolio companies and leadership teams on fundraising strategy, business development, market entry, strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, hiring, product positioning, commercialization and scaling priorities where relevant.
- Connect portfolio companies with investors, customers, distributors, technical experts, corporate stakeholders and potential strategic partners.
- Help portfolio companies engage effectively with large enterprises and industrial or regulated customers, especially where credibility, access and execution support can speed adoption.
- Track portfolio progress and contribute to portfolio reviews, follow-on investment discussions, strategic updates and risk assessments.
- Where suitable, represent the platform in an advisory, observer or board-support role for selected portfolio companies.
- Shape the platform’s investment strategy, market positioning and thematic development through sector insights, pattern recognition and market intelligence.
- Build the platform’s profile and reputation in the venture and deep tech ecosystem through ecosystem participation, thought leadership, founder relationships and a strong market presence.
- Strengthen relationships with co-investors, venture firms, institutional investors, corporate venture groups, research institutions, government-linked ecosystem partners and strategic operators relevant to the platform’s focus areas.
- Help establish the platform as a preferred value-added partner for founders who want more than capital and can benefit from access to a serious strategic platform in Asia.
- Support internal reporting, governance and stakeholder communication in line with the expectations of a venture platform operating inside a listed corporate group.
- Use sound judgment, discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information, conflicts, governance standards and reputational issues.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will likely have substantial experience in venture capital, growth investing, startup operating leadership, corporate venture, strategic partnerships, venture building, innovation leadership or a related area. The platform is open to both investing and operating backgrounds, provided the person can show strong commercial judgment, deep ecosystem connectivity and the ability to engage credibly with both founders and senior stakeholders.
A solid understanding of startup financing, venture dynamics, fundraising processes and the main drivers of venture-scale company building is important. Experience in one or more deep tech or frontier technology areas such as robotics, AI, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, climate tech, enterprise infrastructure, medtech, biotech tools, materials science, mobility or industrial technology will be valuable.
