About the Role
Empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives within their homes and communities. This creative and meaningful role focuses on making each day engaging and significant for those under your care. You will assist individuals in developing daily living skills, supporting personal care routines, encouraging engagement in hobbies and interests, promoting healthy choices, managing complex behaviours with calm and consistent support, and strengthening relationships within the community.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals in developing daily living skills, such as using public transport and preparing meals.
- Provide support with personal care, including showering, dressing, and medication management.
- Encourage and facilitate engagement in personal interests, hobbies, and goals.
- Support individuals in making healthy choices and maintaining overall wellbeing.
- Offer calm and consistent support for complex behaviours, ensuring dignity, safety, and respect.
- Foster and strengthen relationships with family, colleagues, and the wider community.
What You Will Bring
Previous experience in the health and disability sector is advantageous, but a genuine passion for a Support Worker career and a positive attitude are highly valued. You must be available for rostered shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers, and weekends. Confidence in supporting individuals with challenging behaviours using positive approaches is essential, with training provided. Proficiency with computers and tablets for daily tasks and communication is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for building positive relationships. The ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including hands-on support, is also important. A full New Zealand driver’s licence is mandatory.

Additional Information
The West Auckland service area covers Mount Eden, New Lynn, Henderson, and Massey. This is a full-time position requiring 65 hours per fortnight, in addition to sleepover shifts. Flexible availability for a variety of rostered shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers, and regular weekend shifts, is essential.
