Role overview
This permanent Senior Data Modeler position is based in Letterkenny, County Donegal, with a 2/3 hybrid working setup. The role sits within a global technology organisation that operates a major delivery centre in Donegal and offers opportunities to work on impactful projects for clients in the UK and worldwide.
The position is centered on shaping enterprise data structures that enable reporting, analytics, and day-to-day business operations. You will design and evolve conceptual, logical, and physical models, with a particular focus on relational and dimensional modelling in SQL Server environments. Experience with IDERA ER/Studio is preferred, though a comparable modelling tool is also acceptable.
What the role involves
You will convert complex business needs into robust, scalable data designs. The work includes building normalized and dimensional structures, supporting downstream uses such as data warehousing, reporting, and integrations, and maintaining the documentation required to keep data assets clear and governed.
You will also partner closely with business teams, architects, and ETL/integration colleagues to make sure the data design fits wider enterprise architecture and delivery objectives. The role includes support for DDL creation, database implementation, and performance tuning so that solutions remain reliable and efficient.
US hours coverage is required, with working time from 2pm to 10pm GMT.
Responsibilities
- Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models that reflect business needs.
- Develop relational and dimensional structures that support analytics, reporting, and data warehousing.
- Work with business stakeholders, architects, and ETL teams to turn requirements into scalable data designs.
- Produce and keep updated ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and metadata records.
- Make sure data models follow governance, quality, and standardisation principles.
- Support Microsoft SQL Server database design and optimisation.
- Assist with DDL generation and deployment for physical database delivery.
- Contribute to data architecture conversations and keep designs aligned with enterprise strategy.
Requirements
- Significant professional experience in data modelling.
- Solid knowledge of entity-relationship modelling.
- Hands-on capability with relational modelling, including 3NF.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, including star and snowflake schemas.
- Practical experience across conceptual, logical, and physical modelling.
- Experience designing databases in Microsoft SQL Server.
- Ability to write and interpret SQL and DDL scripts.
- Experience using a data modelling tool, ideally IDERA ER/Studio.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts such as SCD, CDC, and ETL integration.
- Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is an advantage.
- Understanding of data governance and metadata management.
- Experience in the BFSI domain is a plus.
